A Parish Community Living The Gospel of Jesus Christ
“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”
— John 20:22–23
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Confession or Penance, is one of the most beautiful encounters of mercy we can experience as Catholics. Through this sacrament, we are lovingly reconciled to God and to the Church.
When we come to Confession, we receive God’s forgiveness for our sins and the grace to begin again — renewed, strengthened, and at peace.
Whether it’s been a few weeks or many years, you are always welcome to return to the Lord’s embrace. 🙏
“There is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.” — Luke 15:7

Come, Holy Spirit, help me to see my sins clearly and to be truly sorry for them. Give me the courage to confess them sincerely, and the grace to begin anew in Your love. Amen.
🙏 Make the Sign of the Cross and say: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [time] since my last confession.”
✝️ Confess your sins honestly and clearly.
💬 The priest may offer counsel and give you a penance — an act of prayer or charity.
🕊️ Pray an Act of Contrition, expressing sorrow for your sins.
✨ The priest will pray the Prayer of Absolution, forgiving your sins in the name of Christ.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the seven sacraments of the Church through which we receive God’s mercy and forgiveness for sins committed after Baptism.
It reconciles us with God and restores our spiritual strength through grace.
While personal prayer and contrition are essential, Jesus Himself gave the Apostles the power to forgive sins (John 20:21–23).
In Confession, the priest acts in the person of Christ and as a representative of the Church. Hearing the words “I absolve you” brings real assurance of God’s mercy and healing.
The Church encourages all Catholics to go to Confession regularly — at least once a year is required, but monthly or during Advent and Lent is highly recommended.
Regular confession helps us grow in humility, peace, and virtue. 🌿
Spend some quiet time in prayer and make an Examination of Conscience — reflecting honestly on your thoughts, words, and actions.
You can find helpful guides online or in your prayer books. Then, come with a contrite heart and a desire to change. ❤️
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide:
🙏 Make the Sign of the Cross and say: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [time] since my last confession.”
✝️ Confess your sins honestly and clearly.
💬 The priest may offer counsel and give you a penance — an act of prayer or charity.
🕊️ Pray an Act of Contrition, expressing sorrow for your sins.
✨ The priest will pray the Prayer of Absolution, forgiving your sins in the name of Christ.
You then leave renewed, forgiven, and filled with peace.
Don’t worry! 💛 The priest will gently guide you through the sacrament. You may also bring a written guide or prayer card with you.
What matters most is your sincere heart and desire to return to God.
Yes. The Seal of Confession is absolute and inviolable.
Nothing you say can ever be revealed by the priest — under any circumstances. You can trust completely in the confidentiality of this sacrament. 🤫
Welcome home! 🕊️
You’re not alone — many people return after a long time away. The priest will help you gently through the process, and you’ll experience great peace and joy in God’s mercy. Don’t be afraid — Christ is waiting for you with open arms.
Yes. Children usually make their First Confession before receiving First Holy Communion (around age 7 or 8).
We help our children understand this as a beautiful encounter of love and forgiveness, not something to fear.
If you fall again, don’t despair. Return to Confession as soon as possible. God’s mercy is endless, and He never tires of forgiving us when we are truly sorry. ❤️🔥
