The Holy Eucharist

“Do this in memory of me.”

The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic life. Each time we gather for Mass, we celebrate Christ’s presence among us — in the Word proclaimed, in the community gathered, and most especially, in the consecrated Bread and Wine that become His Body and Blood.

At St. Mary’s Parish, Hagersville, we joyfully invite all parishioners to enter deeply into this sacred mystery and to receive the Eucharist worthily, with faith and thanksgiving.

🙏 What is the Eucharist?

The Eucharist is Jesus Himself — truly present under the appearances of bread and wine.
In this Sacrament, we remember His sacrifice on the Cross and share in the meal of salvation He offers us. Each celebration of the Mass renews God’s covenant of love with us.

💒 What happens at Mass?

At Mass, we gather as one family in Christ to:

  • Listen to God’s Word from Scripture 📖

  • Offer our prayers and intentions 🙌

  • Witness the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ 🍷

  • Receive Holy Communion, which unites us more closely to Jesus and to one another ❤️

🕊️ Who may receive Holy Communion?

Catholics who have been baptized, have reached the age of reason (around 7 years), and are properly prepared through catechesis and Confession may receive Holy Communion.
Adults seeking to receive the Eucharist for the first time are prepared through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What is First Holy Communion?

First Holy Communion is a very special step in a child’s faith journey.
It is usually celebrated in Grade 2 or at about 7 years of age, after a period of preparation through parish catechism or Catholic school programs.

Parents are the first and best teachers of faith, and we accompany them in preparing their children for this joyful moment.

📅 When and where are First Communion celebrations held?

At St. Mary’s Parish, First Holy Communion is usually celebrated during the Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m., once children have completed their preparation.
Specific dates are announced each year and shared through the parish bulletin, school, and website updates.

🏫 How can I register my child for First Communion?

Parents are invited to contact the Parish Office to register and receive information about preparation sessions.
Please

call 📞 (905) 768-5726 or

email 📧 stmarystann@saintcd.com

at least three months in advance of the expected celebration.

🧠 How should we prepare to receive Holy Communion?
  • Attend Sunday Mass faithfully

  • Participate in preparation sessions offered by the parish or school

  • Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving

  • Cultivate a spirit of prayer and gratitude at home

Parents are encouraged to pray with their children and bring them regularly to Mass to help them understand the beauty of the Eucharist.

❤️ How can adults receive their First Communion?

Adults who have not yet received the Eucharist are invited to join our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program, where they will learn about the faith and prepare to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Please contact the Parish Office for details.
